Proverbs 3: 5-6
I will lean on God and be confident in Him with all my heart and mind. In all my ways I will acknowledge Him and He will direct my path.
As I was reading this scripture a few words began to stand out to me. They were, lean, confident, acknowledge and direct. I looked to Webster’s dictionary to try to get a better understanding of them. This is what I found.
Lean: To cast one’s weight to one side for support.
So that means we should be casting our problems, whatever they may be, to God for support. That sounds like a great weight loss program to me. God does not want us to carry all that weight alone, in fact, He doesn’t want us to carry it at all.
Confident: Certain that things will improve.
When we lean on God, we need to have the assurance that He can make things better.
Acknowledge: To recognize the authority of.
That means that we should be recognizing the authority that God has in us. Or, should we say, how much authority we’re allowing Him to have in us. It’s easy to give Him the easy problems, but what about the big ones?
Direct: To show or point out the way.
God will point out the way to get out of our situation if we lean on Him, have confidence in Him and acknowledge Him.
Sometimes we have a hard time giving things over to someone else to do. Delegating is the word. Delegating means to entrust to another. My boss sometimes asks me why I don’t call for help when we are short handed. She says that she doesn’t expect me to do it all by myself. That’s what God is saying to us, “I didn’t mean for you to carry the burden by yourself, let Me do that”. There are times when we won’t delegate because we think someone else can’t do it as well as we can. Well I got news for you, with people that may be true but not with God. He will take care of the situation and He will do it right. When we refuse to delegate, we are wasting our time on things we don’t need to be bothered with. We could be doing something for God. You know how much energy you have when you lose weight? You want to get up and do more. That’s how it is when we lose the weight of worry.
Why is handing things over to God so difficult for us? Sometimes we say to ourselves, “I don’t want to give that up yet”, “I’ll just hold on to that for a while”. “I just don’t know if God can work that out as well as I can”. “If I give that up I won’t be able to worry and fuss over it.”
What is it we need to delegate to God today? What can we give up and let God take care of it? Lean on Him. Cast your weight on Him for support. Be confident in Him. Be certain that when you roll your problem over to him, it is taken care of. Acknowledge Him and recognize His authority. Know that He will direct your path. He will point out the right way for you.
